Some of the best diving in the world, and the coral reef ensure that the marine life is abundant. Good visibility (20-30metres) and a year –round average water temperature of 27 C ensure that you enjoy your diving experience. Zanzibar also offers a great opportunity for learning to dive or upgrading your diving qualification.

DIVE ZANZIBAR WATERSPORT CENTRE

Dive Zanzibar is a well reputable Padi Resort where your safety is their golden rule. Based on the premises of the Paradise Beach Resort, this resort offer travellers amazing aquamarine, turquoise water and spectacular diving. 

The world renowned "Pemba Channel" accessible from this center offers the scuba diver a variety of shallow reefs up to advanced wall diving. You will be accompanied by experienced divemasters on seaworthy boats equipped with safety equipment. Establish evacuation and hyberbaric treatment facilities are in place. They offer PADI certification programs from a basic one-day resort to advance leadership courses. Quality scuba equipment is also available from the centre.

DIVING SITES

 

LEVEN BANK - [ 11 - 30m max. ]
  • Exciting spot for experienced divers. Spectacular dive, often in strong currents in the Pemba Channel.
  • Big top reef, sandy top, clusters of coral.
  • Big game fish, tuna, trevally, king fish, barracudas, wrasses, big moray eels and large schools of reef fish.
NANKIVELL - [ 15m ]
  • A large clump of coral surrounded by a sandy bottom
  • Good for novice and experienced divers
  • Can only be dived on specific tides
  • Large coral formationGame fish, small reef sharks, reef fish and crayfish

 

HUNGA REEFS - [ 12 - 18m ]
  • Four clumps of coral fairly close to each other
  • Good for novice and experienced divers
  • Beautiful fan corals and soft corals
  • Schools of pickhandle barracuda and batfish, crocodile fish, blue spotted stingrays, Moorish idols, surgeon and unicorn fish, stone fish and scorpion fish

 

MBWANDAWA - [10 - 20m ]
  • Coral reef, situated near Nungwi’s lighthouse
  • Good for novice and experienced divers
  • Beautiful sheet coral and soft corals
  • Rays, moray eels, snake eels, juvenile emperor angel fish, reef sharks

 

KICHAFI - [ 8 - 16m ]
  • Coral reef suitable for novice and experienced diverS
  • Close to Ras Nungwi Beach hotel
  • Good spot for night dives – experienced level dictates.
  • Plate and staghorn coral, large sheet coral formations
  • Wrasse, snapper, moray ells, different types of reef fish, rays and turtles
  • Great dive for observing smaller marine life

 

LEON'S WALL - [ 5 - 30m ]
  • Wall dive with several caves
  • Experience divers only
  • Variety of coral types
  • Lion fish, snappers, big bass and leaf fish, occasionally, big game fish, dolphins
  • September – humpback whales are seen
  • Top reef suitable for snorkelling

 

MNEMBA CORAL GARDEN - [ 5 - 18m ]
  • Large clumps of coral west of Mnemba Atoll
  • Suitable for novice and experienced divers
  • Big fan coral formations
  • Snow flake eels, garden eels, tropical reef fish, small reef sharks, game fish, kingfish, barracudas and turtles

 

KICHWANI - [ 3 - 30m ]
  • Shallow drop off
  • Suitable for novice and experienced divers
  • Big fan corals
  • Tropical fish, game fish, schools of dolphins, snappers, sweet lips and big-eyes are a feature of this dive site.

 

WATABOMI - [ 12 - 22m ]
  • Coral reef
  • Suitable for novice and experienced divers
  • Coral heads (mainly brain coral)
  • Tropical fish, game fish, leaf fish, power blue surgeonfish, peppered moray eels, turtles and blue spotted eagle rays are often sighted.

 

THE BIG WALL - [ 16 - 30m ]
  • Located on Mnemba’s east side
  • Signifying the start of the Pemba Channel
  • Rapid descent down to 30 meters and then vertical wall of coral with many overhangs
  • Experienced divers only
  • Avid divers: can only be dived when tides are favourable and waters calm
  • Big predators, reef sharks, game fish, big rays and tuna.
  • Seasonal sightings of whale sharks.

 

PLEASE NOTE: for reasons of strict safety, the maximum depth on any dive (for advanced divers and beyond) is 30 meters.
